Roy Keane: Ibrahimovic is a great player… but he’s not as good looking as me!

  • The former Manchester United midfielder has seen plenty of the Sweden and PSG striker this season and there's only one thing he hasn't been impressed with: his face!
Republic of Ireland assistant Roy Keane has praised the talents of Sweden striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic – though he couldn’t resist a little dig at the man who could derail his nation’s Euro 2016 hopes.

Keane and the Boys in Green will need to find a way to stop the PSG frontman, who leads Ligue 1’s scoring charts, when they meet in France this summer, with Ireland also facing off against Belgium and Italy in one of the competition’s most competitive groups.

But while Keane is a huge admirer of the 34-year-old striker, there is one area in which he feels he already has the upper hand over the Swede: the looks department!

“I'd like to think I'm better looking than him! He looks like a good player you would be happy to play with,” said Keane ahead of Ireland’s upcoming friendlies against Switzerland and Slovakia.

“He's really, really good. I've seen him recently live, done a few Champions League games for television and there's a lot of speculation that he might be going to England.

“He looks a bit of a character. One you'd want to be in the trenches with. He scores goals as well, a big lad and a big character. Again, he's not shy. Pretty confident. One to watch from our point of view; he's a big player for Sweden and we'd have to keep an eye on him.”

Ireland and Sweden meet in their opening match at Euro 2016 at the Stade de France on June 13, though Keane will get another chance to watch Ibrahimovic before then when PSG take on Manchester City in the Champions League.
